Stop by Station Eight and you will see the entire staff wearing Chamber sponsored Shop Local t-shirts.
Michael Pavone, a part-owner of Station Eight, recently ordered 21 t’s for his restaurant staff to wear. Tony Calabrese, the general manager of Station Eight and a longtime friend of Mike’s, told us over the phone about the idea behind getting these shirts and what they represent for the Station Eight crew.
An initial suggestion from Lara Brait, the Executive Director of the Marshfield Chamber of Commerce, Mike decided that it would be a great idea to get these shirts for the Station Eight staff as a simple way to show support and solidarity for local businesses in the Marshfield community during a time of uncertainty and hardship.
Tony explained how this pandemic has been a real eye-opener for people globally, nationally, and locally to just how important small businesses are to our communities. Especially here in Marshfield, our small local businesses are essential, collectively they function as the backbone of the town.
Experiencing an unprecedented time when most of our local restaurants, salons, gyms and shops were all closed highlighted exactly how much these businesses mean to our community. The staff of Station Eight and the owners recognize this and wholeheartedly support and love the community and its small businesses. Having the staff wear these t-shirts would be a perfect way not only to support neighbors but also to show guests that they are cared for.
Station Eight had decided to stay closed during the worst of the pandemic for the safety of their staff and their guests. Even foregoing the option to open for takeout, they felt that staying closed would be the best way to keep everyone healthy and safe. Tony mentions how this was no easy choice.
Now open again for business, their priorities remain strongly tied to the community, and they are willing to give back everything they've gotten from Marshfield.
Station Eight recently opened again according to Governor Baker’s office protocols and the support they've received since reopening has been really encouraging. Since reopening, the staff has been sporting their “support local” shirts.
The Support Local t-shirts are fundraisers for the Marshfield Community Fund. The fund was established in early May through a joint effort by the United Way of Greater Plymouth and the Merrimack Valley United Way, and it exists to help individuals, families, and small businesses through the hard times and financial strain brought on by the pandemic and its subsequent challenges.
Marshfield as a community still has many residents that have been deeply affected by the closings and reorganizations of many businesses world wide. The Marshfield Community Fund was designed as a way to donate 100% of funds directly to Marshfield residents. The partnership with United Way allows a distribution of funds to be split equally among frontline non-profit support. Distributed specifically to Sowing Seeds, Marshfield Food Pantry and The Boys and Girls Club. All of these organizations are available to every Marshfield resident, and in cases such as the food pantry, we are supporting our neighbors in Duxbury and Pembroke.
T-shirts cost $19 each, $10 of which goes directly to the Marshfield Community Fund. The remaining $9 makes up for the production cost. We have included a link to buy directly from Acme printing if you are interested in purchasing a t-shirt.
Now available in children's sizes too so even the kids can sport their “shop local” merchandise.
