Welcome Addition to Our Community: Marshfield Speech and Language Therapy Expands to Better Serve Families

On a crisp November evening last week, I had the pleasure of attending a ribbon-cutting event hosted by the Marshfield Chamber of Commerce to celebrate the exciting expansion of Marshfield Speech and Language Therapy. Joined by Executive Director Lara Brait and Membership Director Lindsay Currier, I witnessed firsthand the warmth and dedication of owner Lindsey Lennon, M.S., CCC-SLP, and her team. The atmosphere was filled with joy as colleagues, and friends gathered to recognize this milestone for a truly vital community resource.

A Welcoming Space for Growth and Support

The newly renovated office is not just about added space—it’s about creating a warm, inviting environment where families feel supported. As I walked through the updated clinic, it was clear that the team’s goal is to make every child and family feel at home. The thoughtful design, bright spaces, and kid-friendly atmosphere all contribute to making therapy a positive and enriching experience.

What Does Marshfield Speech and Language Therapy Offer?

For many families, navigating the world of speech and language therapy can be overwhelming. Marshfield Speech and Language Therapy is there to make that journey easier with a team dedicated to helping children and adults communicate more effectively. Below, I’ll break down some of the services offered, highlighting how they can benefit families in our community.

Pediatric Speech Therapy

Speech therapy focuses on how we produce sounds, form words, and articulate our thoughts clearly. For children struggling with speech clarity, motor planning, or articulation (like producing “r” or “s” sounds), Marshfield Speech and Language Therapy uses engaging, evidence-based approaches. By incorporating games and play, therapy sessions feel more like fun than work, helping children gain confidence in their communication skills.

Speech therapy can address:

  • Childhood Apraxia of Speech

  • Phonological Disorders

  • Articulation Disorders

  • Craniofacial Anomalies

Early Language Development and Intervention

Early intervention is key for young children experiencing delays in speech or language development. Marshfield Speech and Language Therapy offers therapy for children as young as 18 months, focusing on building vocabulary, using gestures, and developing social communication. The clinic uses a “+1 Routine” and a “3:1 Rule” approach to help parents model language in a way that is easy to integrate into everyday play and interactions.

Techniques to encourage language growth include:

  • Expanding a child’s phrases (e.g., turning “car” into “blue car”)

  • Using more comments than questions during play to promote engagement

  • Creating “communication temptations” to encourage children to express needs and desires

Feeding Therapy for Stress-Free Mealtimes

Feeding challenges can create stress not just for children but for the entire family. Marshfield Speech and Language Therapy provides feeding therapy to help kids overcome picky eating, oral-motor coordination issues, and sensory aversions. With a focus on creating positive, pressure-free mealtimes, children learn to explore new foods and textures while feeling safe and supported.

Social Communication Groups

Navigating social interactions can be challenging, especially for neurodivergent children. The clinic’s social communication groups are designed to build social skills through play, games, and guided interactions. These sessions focus on self-advocacy, understanding social cues, and fostering acceptance. The goal? To equip children with tools they can use in real-life situations—while making sure they never feel pressured to fit into a mold.

Not Just for Kids: Helping Adults Communicate with Confidence

While much of the focus is on children, the clinic also offers comprehensive services for adults. Whether it’s improving speech clarity, addressing stuttering, or supporting those with aphasia, the therapists are skilled at tailoring sessions to meet individual needs. Adults can benefit from services aimed at enhancing communication in both social and professional settings.

A Resource for Schools on the South Shore

In addition to their in-clinic services, Marshfield Speech and Language Therapy provides contract services to local schools. The team works closely with educational staff to deliver speech therapy, develop IEPs, and conduct evaluations to ensure that students receive the support they need to thrive academically.

A Commitment to Family-Centered Care

What struck me most during the ribbon-cutting was Lindsey Lennon’s deep commitment to making therapy a collaborative process. At Marshfield Speech and Language Therapy, parents are considered partners in their child’s progress. Lindsey and her team offer guidance and techniques that families can use at home, ensuring that therapy extends beyond the walls of the clinic.
