Graphic Novel Chat: New Kid

Join us Tuesday, July 21st @3:00 pm-3:45 pm for Graphic Novel Chat, a virtual book club for those going into grades 6-8. The Graphic Novel Chat will be hosted by a small group of young adult librarians from the South Shore.

For July, we will be reading New Kid by Jerry Kraft. "Seventh-grader Jordan Banks loves nothing more than drawing cartoons about his life. But instead of sending him to the art school of his dreams, his parents enroll him in a prestigious private school known for its academics, where Jordan is one of the few kids of color in his entire grade. As he makes the daily trip from his Washington Heights apartment to the upscale Riverdale Academy Day School, Jordan soon finds himself torn between two worlds—and not really fitting into either one. Can Jordan learn to navigate his new school culture while keeping his neighborhood friends and staying true to himself?"

The event will be held virtually. Event links will be emailed to registered participants the day of. All cameras will be set to OFF for patron privacy. By turning on your camera, you and/or your adult consent to your face being on Zoom. We will not be recording the Zoom sessions. Registration is required. There is space for five teens from each library to participate. Once registered, you will receive information on how to attend the event.

Want to read along? New Kid is available on Hoopla. If the event is full and you would like to go on the waitlist, or if you have questions about the event, please email Erica at eruscio@ocln.org.
